Iceland's South Coast — 5 Days

The most concentrated stretch of bucket-list Iceland you can fit into one trip.

Who this is for: First-time visitors with 5–7 days who want the iconic shots without committing to the full Ring Road. If you've only got one week in Iceland, this is the route I send people on.

What you'll experience: Walking behind Seljalandsfoss. The black basalt columns at Reynisfjara. The blue glacier tongue of Sólheimajökull. Floating icebergs at Jökulsárlón and the diamond-clear chunks of ice scattered across the black sand at Diamond Beach. Hiking into Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. And if you time it right, an ice cave you'll be talking about for the rest of your life.

Pace: Slow and unhurried. 2–3 hours of driving max most days, with plenty of time to actually be in each place instead of racing past it. Works in a rental car or a small campervan. And we've added hotels along the way as well if you'd rather go that route.

Bottom line: This itinerary punches harder than any other route in Iceland for bucket-list moments per mile. If it's your first trip, I would start here.
