Charles Knife Canyon is reached via a mostly 2wd accessible track. It's a gravel road in sections, so more popular for 4wd however, 2wds drive it all the time.

The drive leads to one of the best inland lookouts in the region, with some really nice hikes nearby. Thomas Carter Lookout and the Badjirrajirra Loop Trail are popular hikes in this region.

We went up for sunset and the views into the canyon and out to Exmouth Gulf were amazing, 100% recommend! Just drive extra careful on your way back.

Know before going:

  • Turn-off is 22km south of Exmouth (via Minilya-Exmouth Road)

  • Charles Knife Road is gravel and steep

  • No toilets, water or shade at the top

  • Entry via Cape Range NP (entry fees apply)
