Mount Bruce (Punurrunha) is the second highest mountain in WA, and the summit hike is one of the best ways to see Karijini from above.

The hike is steep, it was a solid leg workout. The trail is well-marked thankfully, and the views from the top were worth every step.

But if you don't hike frequently, make sure to take the next day to rest. Your legs will be grateful!

About the hike:

  • Return hike, about 9km total

  • Takes around 4–6 hours depending on pace

  • Best done early morning

  • Class 5 hike, meaning tricky terrain, steep sections, and rock scrambling involved

  • Wildflowers everywhere in spring

Know before going:

  • Free to hike, but Karijini National Park entry fees apply

  • 2WD accessible,

  • Toilets at the trailhead

  • Bring 2–3L of water per person

  • Avoid in the middle of the day, it gets brutally hot even in winter
