Karratha’s more of a hub than a destination, but if you’re exploring the Pilbara, it’s where you stock up, reset, and maybe grab a decent coffee.

There’s a few cool day trips nearby, but the town itself is mostly about function over flair.

Know before going:

• It’s a mining town, so it’s not exactly scenic

• It is closely located to Red Dog a historic area

• Millstream National Park can be explored from here too

• Good range of caravan parks and motels if you need a break from camping

• Gets HOT, proper Pilbara heat, especially Oct–Mar

• Everything’s more expensive up here, so plan ahead
