Newman’s a working mining town so not much to hang around for, but a practical stop if you’re heading to or from Karijini.

Good for fuel, groceries, and a night’s rest! There's also Mt Whaleback, one of the biggest open-cut mines in the world.

• This is a mining town, don’t expect tourist vibes

• Big supermarket, fuel, and basic supplies

• A few short walks and lookouts around the edge of town

• Good base if you need to restock or regroup before or after Karijini

• A few caravan parks and motels available

• Everything shuts early, so plan ahead if you’re arriving late
