Albany is one of the handful of places in all of Australia where we've said we could actually live!
We love this little beautiful town.
It has a bit of everything: beautiful coastline, history, great surfing and snorkelling, proper hikes, and a surprising amount of history for anyone interested.
It's also a big town, so you can stock up properly and move around easily (there's Ubers). And a great base if you’re keen on exploring Torndirrup National Park, the Stirling Ranges, or just want a mix of nature and town comforts.
Things to do there include:
Visit The Gap and Natural Bridge in Torndirrup National Park
Hike Bald Head Trail, one of the best coastal hikes in the state
Surf at Misery Beach, once named Australia’s best beach
Check out the National Anzac Centre, genuinely interesting and well done
Solid café and pub scene, especially around York Street
Good to know:
National park entry fees apply for places in Torndirrup National Park
Gets windy, so bring layers even in summer
Plenty of camping, cabins, and Airbnb options
Weather is cooler than Perth, pack accordingly
