Augusta is a great base if you want to avoid the crowds a bit while spending time shopping in the little town, learning history, exploring caves and chilling at quiet beaches.

There is a popular lighthouse here to explore too called Cape Leeuwin.

The snorkelling might not be as good as in Busselton or Yallingup, but the waters of Flinders Bay are calm, perfect for kayaking and SUPs. Kitesurfing too in the right weather.

There are also some cool whale-watching tours when in season (May-August).

Good to know:

  • Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is nearby, the end point of the Cape to Cape walk

  • Swim or fish at Flinders Bay, it's protected and family-friendly

  • Jewel Cave is nearby, one of the most impressive in the region

  • Good caravan park right near the water
