Manning Gorge is one of the best swims on the Gibb. The pool is there all year and the seasonal waterfall will be at its best early in the season.

We went late in the season so the waterfall was dry, but it was still a great swim!

Plus getting there was really fun. The 3-km hike to the gorge starts by crossing the Manning River, whether by swimming or using the dinghy available!

The rest of the trail is relatively easy but with little shade, so come prepared.

Know before going:

  • Entry fee for day access (pay at Mt Barnett Roadhouse)

  • The hike is about 3km each way and you'll get wet, bring swimmers, water and good shoes

  • Can get brutally hot, best to start early and avoid midday heat

  • Camping is available at the gorge with basic facilities
