This iconic lookout gives you a wild view over the “Z”-shaped bend in the Murchison River, which is a geological marvel in itself.

But if you’re up for a bit of a mission, definitely check out the trails down into the gorge:

  • Z Bend River Trail (2.6km, 2-3 hours, difficult). It's well-marked but steep and rocky, with a ladder to reach the river. Once there, you can go for a swim!

  • Four Ways Trail (6km, very difficult). Unmarked trail that takes you to the point where 4 gorges intersect. Best for experienced hikers.

Know before going:

  • Entry fees to Kalbarri NP apply

  • The trail to the lookout is easy but there are some stairs so not pram or wheelchair-friendly

  • The trails down the gorge are rocky, exposed, and not well shaded. It can also be much hotter down the gorge than on the lookout, so go prepared with 3-4 litres of water per person

  • Picnic area and toilets at the car park
