What you’ll do

A week of fun in and around Zurich during Christmas break, including special holiday events, sightseeing and outdoor winter activities. Good for people living in Zurich that need to entertain guests or travelers using Zurich as a home base.

If you are starting this itinerary on Dec 24-26, note that many shops, museums, restaurants, tours, and attractions are closed on these days. So you may prefer to swap any city day with a mountain day, since mountains services are open on holidays.

For your first day, it's nice to wander around the Zurich old town to get acquainted. Before or during your tour, stop for hot chocolate at the classic Sprüngli cafe.

Remember that most shops in Zurich are closed Dec 25-26. So you may need to swap this day with a mountain day.

For the afternoon, we suggest doing an indoor activity to help you warm up. I've included a few options where we usually take our visitors.

Although most Christmas markets close by 24 Dec, the Illuminarium stays open through 30 Dec (but closed on 24-26). So this is a nice place to experience some winter cheer and eat something tasty from their food stands.
