Lækjavík is basically a small black sand beach, located on an inlet/cove by the main road in East Iceland. It's a great spot, known for its raw, untouched atmosphere. The shoreline is interrupted by a single massive rock rising dramatically from the sand, creating a powerful focal point against the open North Atlantic ocean. On calm days the beach feels serene and minimalistic, while in rough weather the atmosphere transforms completely.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A pretty black sand beach with a unique rock sticking out of the sand in East Iceland.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Sunrise (it will most likely be in the dark during sunset)

  • Nice to know: You can go down to the beach and during low tide you can go all the way to the big rock. Remember, always be careful around the ocean.
