Nauthúsagil is a beautiful natural gem located on Iceland's South Coast, just beneath the legendary glacial volcano Eyjafjallajökull. This magnificent ravine is dotted with mesmerizing waterfalls and sheltered by a wild rowan tree which has grown horizontally in some places. It can be a bit tricky to get all the way in (depending on the water levels and the season) so I highly recommend waterproof boots (and crampons during winter). It takes around 45 minutes to go all the way in and back.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A beautiful ravine in South Iceland with a waterfall at it's bottom.

  • Best season: Summer but I highly recommend it any time of the year BUT winter can be tricky with slippery rocks so bring waterproof shoes and crampons for that.

  • Best time of day: Any. Perfect for high sun / blue sky days if you're a photographer.

  • Nice to know: Your feet might get wet so if you have waterproof shoes bring them. And during winter, rocks get slippery so crampons are a good idea then. The most pretty part is at the bottom of the ravine.
