Sólheimajökull is located on the south coast and is a popular outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. It's super easy to access from the ring road and offers stunning views even without any serious hiking. You can do guided tours to hike on the glacier, explore ice caves, and sometimes even ice climbing.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A glacier on the south coast, easy to drive to.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: I never advise anyone to go onto a glacier without proper knowledge or a guide. You can still drive and hike all the way up to the glacier without going on top of it. Hike from the parking lot is around 1km / 0,6 miles.
