Systrafoss ("Sister Falls") in Kirkjubaejarklaustur is more than just a pretty roadside waterfall. Standing at around 70 meters (230 feet) high, it boasts two cascading streams that create a picturesque sight against the mountainside. The waterfall's rich history is steeped in local folklore, with tales of nuns, golden combs, and mysterious disappearances adding an eerie charm to the area. There's an easy hike up to the waterfall itself which also marks the first stop in a 5 km loop called the love path.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A pretty double waterfall on the south coast.

  • Best season: Summer.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: There's an easy hike up to the waterfall and also a 5km loop with a few more attractions in the area.
