The Millpu Pools are a jaw-dropping series of turquoise cascades and natural pools tucked in a remote canyon about 3–4 hours from Ayacucho. Dozens of pools step down through the valley, their surreal blue-green color caused by minerals in the water.
Visiting Millpu feels like stumbling into a secret paradise. The hike to the pools is moderate but rewarding, and you’ll be surrounded by dramatic canyon walls and highland landscapes. Swimming is no longer allowed (to preserve the fragile ecosystem), but simply walking along the pools and taking in the views is unforgettable.
This is one of those places most travelers never make it to, but it easily ranks among the most beautiful natural sites in Peru.
Pro Tip: Go with a local guide or organized tour from Ayacucho. Bring sturdy shoes, snacks, and layers because weather changes quickly in the Andes.
