Stunning island to visit for a day trip from Auckland. 🏖️
Well worth visiting if you like nature and wildlife. The views are spectacular. Hobbs beach is gorgeous plus lots of great walks.
From a reviewer: You can have a guided tour or go about the island yourself. Ferry from Auckland leaves once a day so gives you a full day to explore. Worth noting there is no shops on the island so you need to take your essentials with you on the ferry. Plenty of nice quiet areas to sit and enjoy the weather, the wildlife, watch the world pass by. Plenty of walking routes to take. Photographers paradise
At the top of the island, near the lighthouse, is a Visitor Centre that has interesting interpretive displays and free coffee and tea. There is no food for sale on the island so please bring your own lunch. The shop at the Visitor Centre sells cold drinks and a wide range of gifts – all proceeds benefit conservation and education activities carried out by the Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi.
Getting to the island
Tiritiri Matangi lies close to the Whangaparoa Peninsula. The easiest way to get to and from the island is to take the Explore’s ferry service from either Central Auckland or Gulf Harbour.
