This is such a worthy hidden gem to know! Not only is it a cool place to explore, it also has really nice clear (deep) water to swim in!

We highly recommend adding Cement Works to your list!

Check out this awesome video of the place: https://www.tiktok.com/@claires_nature_finds/video/7472202152228834568

There are plenty of picnic areas nearby, making it a perfect spot for a family day out. 🌊. The toilets are clean, and the area is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your furry friend along 🐾. It can get busy on sunny weekends, but its pretty quiet otherwise. Please watch kids swimming here as it's very deep!

Aside from the swimming hole, the Cement Works site is steeped in history. It’s a significant industrial landmark and holds major historical value in the region. Recognized by Heritage New Zealand as a Category 1 historic place and listed as a New Zealand Archaeological Association site, it’s an important part of our local history. The site was even highlighted in the IPENZ "Engineering to 1990" project, marking its role in the development of the nation 🏗️.
