This is a must visit waterfall if you're around West Auckland!
Tucked in the Waitākere Ranges, Karamatura Falls walk overall is a slow incline with steps, approx. 30-45mins to falls. Multiple clean swim holes-bring togs! A few smaller waterfalls too before the main fall.
The loop track following the stream is lovely, one river crossing that was manageable.
⏱️ 30–45 min walk one way
🚶♀️ Moderate incline, with steps and one stream crossing
💦 Great swimming spots along the track
🥾 Good shoes recommended—track can get muddy
🐶 No dogs (protected area)
🚻 Toilets and carpark at the trailhead
Tip: Create an amazing full day outing and combine with: Omanawanui Track (2hr return), Whatipu Caves (1hr return) & Donald Mclean Lookout (20 min return).
Tip 2: We recommend trying to do these activities including the waterfall on a week day as the weekends can get very busy! Omanawanui Ttack/Whatipu Caves is down a long one-way gravel road.
