Surrounded by the serene waters of a crater lake and framed by the rugged landscapes of Mt. Akagi, this shrine is both a spiritual haven and a scenic delight, making it one of my personal favorites.

Access:

  • By Car: Akagi Shrine can be reached by car, with parking available near the shrine. From Maebashi City, it’s about a 40-minute scenic drive up Mt. Akagi.

  • By Public Transport: From Tokyo, take the JR Joetsu or Hokuriku Shinkansen to Takasaki Station, then transfer to the JR Ryomo Line to Maebashi Station. From Maebashi, a bus heads to Akagi Shrine seasonally, but availability varies, so check schedules in advance.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Best Time to Visit: Akagi Shrine is beautiful year-round, but it’s especially picturesque during autumn for the vibrant foliage and in winter when snow transforms the landscape.

  • Combine with a Hike: If you enjoy hiking, the trails around Mt. Akagi and Lake Ono offer scenic routes, and you can incorporate a visit to Akagi Shrine into your hike.
