How to Get There

  • From Kintetsu Nara Station: 20-minute walk through Nara Park.

  • From JR Nara Station: 35-minute walk or a short bus ride to Kasuga Taisha Honden bus stop.

1. Approach Through Kasugayama Primeval Forest

  • The shrine is nestled in a lush forest, with a peaceful path lined by hundreds of moss-covered stone lanterns (tōrō).

  • Bronze Lanterns: Found inside the shrine, these intricately crafted pieces are lit during special festivals.

  • Stone Lanterns: Thousands line the approach to the shrine, creating a mystical ambiance.

3. Shrine Architecture

  • Admire the vermilion-lacquered buildings, which are rebuilt every 20 years following ancient Shinto traditions.
