Amagiso is truly one of the most unique and fascinating outdoor onsen experiences I've ever had. The outdoor baths are incredible, especially with the view of the giant Odaru waterfall—it feels like you're completely immersed in nature. It's tattoo-friendly, which is a big plus for those of us who usually have to be cautious about where we can enjoy hot springs in Japan.

There are several different onsen to choose from, each offering its own vibe. You can even take a dip in the river to cool off during the summer, which is such a refreshing experience. And if you're into sauna culture, they have a tent sauna that's perfect for unwinding after a long day.

This place is just amazing, and it's easily one of my top choices for an onsen getaway. The combination of natural beauty, variety of baths, and relaxed atmosphere makes Amagiso a must-visit spot.

Amagisou is actually also a hotel for those who want to spend the night here, however the hotel is currently under construction.

Access:

By Train:

  1. From Tokyo: Take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Atami Station (about 45 minutes).

  2. At Atami Station, transfer to the JR Ito Line and ride to Izu-Kawazu Station (approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes).

  3. From Izu-Kawazu Station, take a taxi or the local bus bound for Amagiso. The ride takes around 15 minutes.

By Car:

  • From Tokyo, take the Tomei Expressway toward Numazu, then follow Route 136 and Route 414 to Kawazu. Look for signs leading to Amagiso. The trip takes about 3.5 hours.
