Dotonbori is the most iconic area in Osaka — and the first place I take friends when they visit the city for the first time.
The atmosphere is energetic and lively, with bright neon signs, eye-catching buildings, and endless options for eating and drinking.

This area is famous for its street food and casual restaurants, so it’s easy to wander around, stop for snacks, and enjoy Osaka’s food culture at your own pace. Even if you don’t have a specific plan, just walking through Dotonbori is part of the experience.

Don’t miss taking a photo in front of the Glico Running Man — it’s a classic Osaka moment and the kind of photo you’ll want to share to say, “I’ve been to Osaka!”

Dotonbori really comes alive at night. Many restaurants stay open late, and the canal area is lined with bars and clubs, making it a great spot for anyone who enjoys nightlife or evening walks by the river.

Tip: It gets very crowded, especially in the evening, but that busy energy is part of what makes Dotonbori feel so uniquely Osaka.
