What you’ll do

How long do you need in El Calafate? Many come for 1-2 days to see Perito Moreno and move on. If you have the time, I recommend 3 days. There is no shortage of things to see here.

It can be confusing trying to organize your time, so I've crafted this itinerary to be customizable. Each day is dedicated to a certain type of activity and you can use it to create the perfect trip for YOU.

  • Day 1 - Perito Moreno

  • Day 2 - Visit an Estancia

  • Day 3 - This day includes 5 options for full day excursions, book one, two, or none. Choose your own adventure.

  • Day 4 - Half day activities. Mix & match for the perfect day or pick 1 activity to add onto your arrival or departure day if you have time to kill before/after your flight.

🚗How to get around El Calafate? If you're going on a lot of booked tours, they will provide transportation. For private tours without driving, you can always hire a taxi for the day or take buses. If you want more freedom, you can also rent a car. Driving here is very easy.

🥾What to wear in El Calafate? Layers. This far south the weather can be unpredictable. Bring a good base layer like merino wool (that you can wear multiple times without odor), a fleece, and a wind/rain coat, and the addition of a puffer in winter or shoulder seasons.

Do not underestimate the power of the sun this far south. Bring a lot of sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat that straps under the chin (or lose it in the wind).
