The Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro is a stunning, 17-ton bronze bell housed within an ornate, pagoda-style stone pavilion overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Angel’s Gate Park. Gifted by South Korea in 1976 to celebrate the U.S. bicentennial and symbolize friendship between the two nations, the bell is richly decorated with Korean cultural motifs, including four pairs of goddesses representing peace and freedom. The pavilion sits on a bluff with sweeping views of the coastline, Catalina Island, and the Los Angeles harbor — making it one of the most scenic and peaceful spots in Southern California. It’s a popular stop for picnics, photography, and sunset views, and visitors can hear the bell rung on special occasions like New Year’s Day and Korean Liberation Day.
