Bear's Hump Trailhead

If you’re looking for one of those hikes that gives you a ridiculous payoff for minimal effort — this is it.

Bear’s Hump is easily one of the most rewarding short hikes in Waterton. It’s about 2.8 km round trip, and you can be up and down in roughly an hour… but the views feel like something you should’ve worked way harder for.

The trail climbs steadily right from the start — it’s a bit of a grind, not gonna lie — but it’s short, and you’ll feel it in your legs in the best way. And the higher you get, the better it gets.

At the top, you’re looking out over the entire Waterton townsite, the bright blue lakes, and the mountains stretching all the way into Montana. It’s one of those views where you kinda just stand there for a second and take it all in.

One thing to know: the trail is fully exposed since the wildfire, so there’s zero shade. Go early, bring water, and don’t underestimate the sun — it hits hard here.

But honestly? That open landscape is part of what makes this hike so special. Big skies, wide views, and that feeling of being right in the middle of it all.

If you’re short on time or don’t feel like committing to a full-day hike — do this one. It’s quick, it’s rewarding, and it’s 100% worth it.
