Gorman Lake is one of those short hikes with a huge payoff, especially if you’re exploring the area around Golden.

The trail is relatively quick, at about 3 km one way (6 km round trip) with roughly 300–400 m of elevation gain, making it a solid half-day adventure rather than a full commitment.

The path winds steadily uphill through forest before opening up to a stunning alpine lake surrounded by rugged peaks.

What makes this spot even better is that you can camp right at the lake, turning it into a really fun overnight trip if you want to slow things down.

There are a few basic backcountry sites, and one of the coolest parts is that there’s often a canoe available for everyone to use, which makes the whole experience feel even more special once you get up there.

The road to the trailhead is a rough forest service road, so a higher-clearance vehicle is recommended — it’s not the kind of place you just casually drive up to.

But that’s also why it stays quieter. If you’re looking for a shorter hike with alpine views, camping potential, and something a bit different, this is a really good one.
