Welcome to Invermere, the heart of the Columbia Valley, perfectly tucked between the Purcell and Rocky Mountains. I actually used to live here, and while it was a bit too quiet for me long-term, it’s such a fun place to visit — especially in the summer.
Life here revolves around Lake Windermere, where you’ll find warm water (for the Rockies), sandy beaches, and plenty of space for boating, paddleboarding, and just relaxing by the lake.
In summer, it’s also a great spot for camping, with a more laid-back feel and fewer restrictions compared to places like Banff National Park, which makes planning a trip a lot easier.
In winter, the area transforms into a snowy playground, with skiing at nearby Panorama Mountain Resort and skating on the Lake Windermere Whiteway — the longest skating trail in the world.
The town itself has a small but charming downtown with local shops, cafés, and galleries, making it a perfect base for year-round adventures.
Whether you’re here for lake days, camping, or a quieter mountain escape, Invermere offers a different, more relaxed side of the Rockies.
