ONE OF MY FAVOURITES.
Escape deep into the backcountry with a stay at Shadow Lake Lodge, a beautiful and secluded lodge tucked into the mountains of Banff National Park.
The lodge is only accessible by hiking, biking, or skiing about 14 km (8.7 miles) from the Redearth Creek trailhead near the Banff townsite, making the journey part of the adventure. Once you arrive, you’ll find cozy private log cabins spread across a stunning alpine meadow surrounded by towering peaks and quiet wilderness.
We hiked in ourselves and actually got hailed on three different times on the way in, which definitely made the journey memorable 😅.
But honestly, once you arrive it feels like a little oasis in the backcountry — and the fact that the lodge has real hot showers makes a huge difference after a long hike in the mountains.
From the lodge, it’s only about 1 km (0.6 miles) to beautiful Shadow Lake, where you’ll find calm water, incredible reflections of the surrounding peaks, and a peaceful alpine setting. The lodge is also a fantastic base for exploring nearby trails like Ball Pass Junction or heading toward Haiduk Lake, making it a perfect mix of backcountry adventure and comfort.
