This is a must do activity whilst in New Zealand, one of the most beautiful places in the country & maybe even the world.

So, there are two ways to get to Milford Sound:

One: Drive there yourself (4 hour drive) but you will still need to pay for a boat tour if that's something you wish to do. The drive is spectacular & the only trouble this brings is not trying to look around at the beautiful sights whilst your on the road. There are plenty of stops along the way to pull over & take some pictures or even to hike or camp overnight, which many people do in the warmer months.

Two: Take a tour, which we did. You can find tours all over the internet or book them via your accomodation/hostel. Tour start at $149 per person & are the best way to visit Milford Sound if you don't have a car or are only in Queenstown for a short while. The tours will take you to and from your accomodation, stopping along the way for pictures & finishing with a world-class boat tour around the Sound. The boat tour is where you will spot New Zealand Fur seals & dolphins which enjoy playing near the boats.

Please bear in mind it is the wettest place in New Zealand meaning it is more likely to rain there than anywhere else, however don't let this put you off because you will have a better chance of seeing the hundreds of waterfalls there in action, rather than on a dry hotter day.

We went with Great Sights Tours, who providing a comfortable bus with a glass top so that you get to see the best of the mountain views. We have been on many tours around the world & this one is by far our favourite.

This truely is one of New Zealand's most fancinating places & we can't recommend this tour or adventure enough.
