Kamikochi's Kappa Bridge is a must-see when visiting this beautiful part of the Japanese Alps. The bridge is a suspension bridge over the Azusa River that provides amazing views of Hotaka Peaks and Mt. Myojindake upriver, and Mt. Yakedake downriver. Visitors can also find several hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops nearby. The area around the bridge is known for it's Kesho Yanagi willows and Japanese larch trees, making it especially popular with photographers and nature seekers. Kappa Bridge is named after Ryunosuke Akutagawa's 1927 novel "Kappa," which tells the story of a protagonist journeying to Kamikochi only to wander into the mystical world of Japanese water spirits.
