Neana Falls, also known as Neana no Taki, is a beautiful waterfall located in Niigata Prefecture. It's one of the most aesthetically pleasing and impressive waterfalls I've seen in Japan, making for some stunning photos or just a lovely place to stop for lunch.
The falls are surrounded by a beautiful forest and the trail leading to the falls takes no longer than a 20-minute walk. If you'd like to swim, there are some calmer sections to the side but be careful not to slip
Note: There’s a chance you can still see the falls in winter but once the snow gets too heavy the road leading there will be closed
General info:
Located in Myoko, in the southern part of Niigata Prefecture, Naena Falls is an exquisite spot to check out while in Japan. The 55-meter high waterfall is known for its roaring sound, a nickname that it has gained because of its resemblance to an earthquake. Moreover, the cooler air in the nearby Myoko Highland area makes for a great escape from summer heat. Visitors can trek the 400-meter long path leading to the falls that is mostly paved or take a car from Myokokogen Station and reach the destination within 15 minutes. It's also popular to wade or swim near the waterfalls but care should be taken due to rapid currents. A unique treat awaits those who visit the restaurant near the parking lot where they can try Nagashi-Somen- a dish of noodles carried down a bamboo slide with chopsticks. All in all, Naena Falls is a great spot to enjoy nature along with the surrounding scenery.
