  • By Public Transport:

Take the Odakyu Line to Shibusawa Station, then take a Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu Bus to Okura Bus Stop

Accommodation Options:

Hike Details:

  • Distance: Approx. 13 km (round trip)

  • Duration: 5 to 6 hours (round trip)

  • Elevation Gain: About 1,200 meters

General Information & Summary:

Standing at 1,491 meters, Mt. Tonodake is known for its open vistas and scenic forest trails. The hike begins at Okura Bus Stop, and the initial part of the trail ascends through a mix of forested areas and open ridges, with some sections reinforced with staircases and ropes for stability. After about 2.5 hours of hiking, you’ll reach the Tonodake Lodge area near the summit, where you can take a rest before reaching the top.

The summit area offers breathtaking views across the Tanzawa range, and on clear days, you can even see Mt. Fuji in the distance. This trail is known for its seasonal appeal, with lush greenery in spring and summer, vibrant foliage in autumn, and occasional snow in winter, so each visit offers a different experience.

The return hike follows the same route back to Okura Bus Stop, with the descent taking around 2-3 hours. While physically demanding, Mt. Tonodake is a rewarding hike for those seeking scenic mountain views and a well-maintained trail within a manageable distance from Tokyo.
