The photos might be misleading, as this is actually a ninja training outdoor facility. The Akame Ravine was once used by Iga-style ninjas for training due to its diverse natural environment and strategic location. Ninjas, who were active in intelligence and espionage from the 15th to 18th centuries, found the rugged terrain of Akame ideal for developing skills like stealth, climbing, and camouflage. At that time, Akame was part of the Iga Province, a hub for ninja activity.

Today, visitors can don ninja attire and try out ninja techniques, including hiding, climbing, and jumping. You can even borrow ninja suits for a full immersive experience while exploring the Akame 48 Waterfalls. These waterfalls, located in Mie Prefecture, span a scenic four-kilometer trail that includes stunning spots like Fudo and Senju Falls. Along the way, you might catch a glimpse of a Japanese giant salamander, adding to the unique adventure of combining history and nature.

This destination is perfect for those interested in Japan’s ninja history, outdoor exploration, and beautiful natural landscapes, offering a truly unique experience off the typical tourist path.
