Kanayama Lakeside Campground Summary:

Kanayama Lakeside Campground offers a spacious and scenic camping experience with well-maintained lawns and excellent facilities, making it one of the top-rated campsites in Hokkaido. The campground features a large free tent site that can accommodate up to 500 tents and has parking space for 800 vehicles. It’s an open, reservation-free site, but reservations are required for the bungalows.

The campground provides 24-hour access, and if you arrive outside of staffed hours (6:00 PM - 8:30 AM), you must check in at the management office the following morning. There are also amenities like a large public bath at the nearby Kanayama Lake Resort, available from May to October.

Campfires are allowed but must use a fire pit and heat-resistant sheet, which are available for rent along with other camping gear. Bungalows come equipped with electricity, but large appliances like hot plates cannot be used due to limited power supply. Montbell members receive a 10% discount on bungalow bookings.

For a comfortable camping experience, the campground offers various facilities, including multiple restrooms, cooking areas, and even a dog run. However, activities like direct fires on the lawn, using generators, fireworks, karaoke, swimming in the lake, and drone use are prohibited.

Operating Period:

April 27, 2024 – October 14, 2024

Bungalow Reservations (No reservation necessary for camping):

  • Available starting from April 10 at 8:00 AM, exclusively online (via Montbell’s website).

  • Telephone reservations are only accepted on the day of stay if there are vacancies.

Fees:

  • Tent Camping: ¥1,000 per adult per night, ¥500 for day camping.

  • Bungalow: ¥3,600 per night (accommodates up to 6 people with electricity).

  • Additional camping fees apply for bungalow use.

Additional Information:

  • The campground hosts the Kanayama Lake Festival on the last Saturday in July.

  • Rules include responsible pet management, proper waste disposal, and general campsite etiquette to ensure a pleasant experience for all guests.
