When you walk into Zauo, you’ll see a large, boat-shaped seating area surrounded by tanks filled with fish like sea bream, flounder, and lobster. You’ll get a fishing rod, bait, and instructions on how to catch your meal. Once you’ve caught a fish, the staff will help you decide how to have it prepared—sashimi, grilled, fried, or simmered.

  1. Grab a rod and start fishing – No prior fishing experience needed; the staff will help.

  2. Catch your fish – Some fish are easier to catch than others. Sea bream is usually a good choice if you want quicker success.

  3. Choose your preparation – Sashimi, grilled with salt, tempura, or simmered in soy-based sauce.

  4. Enjoy your meal – Sit back, relax, and wait for your catch to arrive fresh from the kitchen.

Fishing your own fish costs less than ordering directly from the menu. Here are some common options:

  • Sea Bream (Tai) – ~¥3,300 if you catch it, ~¥4,000 if ordered

  • Flounder (Hirame) – ~¥5,500 if caught, ~¥6,500 if ordered

  • Lobster (Ise-ebi) – Priced by size, usually ¥6,000+

  • Seasonal Specials – The staff will let you know what’s available

They also offer side dishes like edamame, karaage (fried chicken), and sashimi platters if you want to round out your meal.
