This is the itinerary I’d recommend following if you had just two weeks in Kyrgyzstan. It’s for those keen on heading out for a hike, with a four-day trek included within these suggested 14 days.
It covers all the highlights of the central and eastern part of the country, that are easily combined into a loop from Bishkek.
This itinerary includes:
Exploring Bishkek, the capital city
Scenic train journey to Issyk Kul lake
Exploring Karakol, the adventure capital
Four day trek to Ala Kul lake
Day trip to Jeti Oguz from Karakol
Photo stops at Fairytale Canyon and Aksay Canyon
Staying in Kochkor, base for exploring central Kyrgyzstan
Day trip to Kol Ukok lake
Three day horse trek to Song Kul
How to travel? This itinerary suits any sort of traveller, whether you're exploring by public transport via marshrutka or hiring a car for your trip. Each of these spots includes information on how to get there, if you need to plan your trip around local transport.
Only have 10 days? This could be shortened to a 10 day itinerary if you take out the four day trek to Ala Kul.
Have a bit more time? You could add a few days extra by heading to Naryn from Kochkor and doing a three day 4x4 tour to Tash Rabat and Kel Suu lake. Check out the 1 month itinerary for more info on this.
