What you’ll do

This 10-day luxury Peru itinerary is designed around the country’s most iconic destinations, combining extraordinary landscapes, rich history, and some of Peru’s most exceptional travel experiences across Lima, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Cusco.

This version of the itinerary includes some of Peru’s most iconic luxury experiences, including the legendary Belmond Hiram Bingham and an overnight stay at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel located directly at the entrance to the citadel.

The journey begins in Lima, Peru’s vibrant culinary capital, before continuing into the Andes to the Sacred Valley. Spending several days in the Sacred Valley allows time to acclimate to the altitude while exploring ancient Inca ruins, colorful markets, and dramatic mountain landscapes.

From the Sacred Valley, travel to Machu Picchu aboard the Belmond Hiram Bingham, one of the most iconic rail journeys in South America. Upon arrival, you’ll stay at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, allowing you to experience Machu Picchu at its most magical moments — early in the morning before day visitors arrive and again in the quieter hours of the afternoon.

After Machu Picchu, the journey continues to Cusco, where colonial architecture and Inca foundations blend together along cobblestone streets, lively plazas, and historic temples.

Each day in the itinerary focuses on a specific region, allowing you to explore archaeological sites, cultural landmarks, and some of Peru’s best restaurants while still leaving time to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

While the itinerary follows a natural route through Peru, the order of activities can easily be adjusted depending on flight schedules or personal preferences.

Getting Around

Travel between destinations in Peru typically involves a combination of domestic flights, luxury trains, and private transfers.

For this itinerary, most travelers fly from Lima to Cusco, while private drivers are used for transfers and sightseeing within the Sacred Valley and Cusco. The journey to Machu Picchu is made aboard the Belmond Hiram Bingham, with entry tickets, a guided visit to the citadel, and private bus transfers included as part of the experience.
