Marché Forain du Tampon is the southern highlands' go-to weekly market, where locals shop for fresh fruit, vegetables, wild greens, plants, spices, and cooked Creole food. It’s not touristy, and that's what makes it good. If you want seasonal produce and a local feel without beach town prices, this is your stop.

What to expect:

  • Regional fruit and vegetables (bring cash and bags)

  • Ti jacques, chouchou, brèdes, wild herbs, and other highland crops

  • Hot food stands selling samoussas, bouchons, and carry in containers

  • Plants and cut flowers, homemade jams, and pickles

  • Local crowd, open-air stalls, often shaded by tarps

It’s the kind of market where locals don’t rush and everyone seems to know each other. You’ll get fresher produce and better variety here than at coastal minimarkets, especially if you’re self-catering.

👉 Go early. Before 9:30 is best if you want the best fruit or anything that's been prepared fresh that morning.
