Lake Bohinj is a calm Alpine lake inside Triglav National Park, ideal if you want outdoor time without the crowds of nearby Bled. Come early in high season to find parking in Ribčev Laz or take the bus from Bled or Bohinjska Bistrica, then rent a kayak or SUP to explore the water, but expect it to stay chilly even in summer. Hike or cycle the easy lakeside trail for 360 degree views, or ride the Vogel cable car for high-mountain panoramas. Even if the weather is fine and sunshine is forecast, Lake Bohinj can be covered with thick fog for most of the morning. Don’t give up - this can actually present you with fantastic photo ops. Take a walk along the shore to find the best views and use the trees and shore as a foreground. A tripod is recommended, especially if you experiment with long exposures.
