Mangart saddle can be reached by the famous narrow Mangart road that will take you more than 2000m above sea level, and it is the practical starting point for hikes up Mangart and other ridges with spectacular panoramas. You should expect a steep, twisting single-lane ascent that is sometimes gated for the winter season and requires a small fee, so drive carefully, use low gears and try to arrive early to find limited parking. From the saddle you have multiple options for landscape photography. As you walk around the area you’ll have great views to the north into Italy and Austria as well as to the south. The mountain hut located just below the saddle offers decent, affordable mountain food and drinks. It is possible to overnight there in the summer. Late afternoon and sunset can be experienced from the saddle itself and this is also a good place for night photography.
