Zurich City

One day in Zürich city is plenty to discover its charms. If you have more time, you can spread the activities over more days. If you are flying through Zurich, you could use this as the last day before flying out.

Suggested flow

1. Visit Lindt Home of Chocolate in the morning, via boat from Zürich.

2. Easy lunch in Zürich near ferry dock.

3. Wander Zürich old town, visiting highlights.

4. Evening walking along lakeshore, Uetliberg viewpoint, or lake swimming.

Explore the old town

From Bellevue, start your old town wander through the Niederdorf neighborhood, heading first to the Grossmünster cathedral.

Optionally follow a walking tour to make sure you visit all the highlights. I've included links to some of the highlights.

Lunch

End your walking tour near Lake Zürich / opera house area. I suggest a casual lunch near here before taking the boat to Lindt, which leaves from the nearby Burkliplatz ferry stop.

Stop at Sternen Grill or Napule near the Bellevue tram stop. Then picnic at the big plaza in from of the Operahaus or by the lake, which has lots of benches.

Or visit the Bauschänzli beer garten, short walk from the ferry dock.

Book tickets at least one month in advance, especially for weekends.

From Zurich, we suggest riding the boat there and back.

Evening in Zurich

For a hot day, the best place to swim in the lake with kids is the Mythenquai, usually open until 8pm. They have a cafe there for a simple dinner.

Or a walk along Zürich lake to the Zürichhorn park with a playground. Have an easy dinner at the lakeside beer garten.

Or short train ride up to the Uetliberg viewpoint above Zürich. They have a kiosk for simple food or full service restaurant.
