Day 1 – Magical Start at Hintersee & Wimmbachklamm
Early morning: Sunrise at Hintersee
Start your day early (around 5 am in summer) to witness the serene beauty of Hintersee at sunrise. When there’s a bit of morning mist, the Hochkalter mountain reflects beautifully in the lake.
Afterwards, take a relaxing walk around the lake (approx. 5 km, 1.5 hours).
Don't forger to prepare snacks for a breakfast or a picnic at the lake.
Walk through the Zauberwald & drive to Wimmbachklamm
You can either walk through the magical Zauberwald forest from Hintersee to the Wimbach Valley parking lot (approx. 45–60 min), or drive in about 10 minutes.
Midday: Hike through the Wimmbachklamm
Open daily 7 am–7 pm (May to October), entrance €2.50.
The trail leads about 1 km through wooden walkways and bridges over rushing mountain water.
Optional: continue hiking for another hour into the valley to reach the Wimbachschloss hut — great food and scenic setting.
Afternoon: Relaxation or visit the town of Berchtesgaden
If you still have energy, drive to Berchtesgaden to explore the town or shop some souveniers.
Otherwise, return to your accommodation and recharge for the next day.
Day 2 – Königssee, Obersee & Fischunkelalm
Early morning: Take one of the first boats across Königssee
Boats start around 8 am from Schönau am Königssee. The earlier, the quieter.
The ride to Salet takes about 55 minutes and includes a famous echo demonstration and stunning mountain views.
Morning: Hike to Obersee and Fischunkelalm
From the Salet dock, it's a 15-minute walk to Obersee and then a 45- to 60-minute hike to the idyllic Fischunkelalm.
Try their fresh buttermilk and local snacks — simple but delicious.
Optional: Hike to Röthbach Waterfall
If you’re up for more, it’s another 30 minutes to Germany’s tallest waterfall (470 m drop).
Afternoon: Return by boat to St. Bartholomä & Schönau
Take a boat back and stop at St. Bartholomä, take a walk at the small peninsula with stunning views to the valley.
Don’t miss the last boat — usually around 5 pm, depending on season.
Day 3 – Hike to Achenkanzel with Königssee Views
Early morning: Start from Hammerstiel parking lot
Begin your hike to the Achenkanzel viewpoint via the Kührointalm (approx. 3 hours, 650 meters elevation gain).
The view over Königssee from the top is breathtaking.
Lunch: Stop at one of the mountain huts
Both Kührointalm and Grünsteinhütte offer hearty Bavarian meals.
Afternoon: Return via a scenic loop
Complete the circuit by hiking down past Grünsteinhütte, making this a varied and rewarding round trip (approx. 5–6 hours total).
Optional evening stop: Ramsau Church at sunset
If time allows, visit one of this iconic churche to round off your trip with a peaceful and picture-perfect moment.
