Peninsula Valdes: 2 (Full) Days

What you’ll do

It is very common to visit Peninsula Valdés as a day trip from Puerto Madryn. This is a perfectly good way to see the peninsula, but if you consider yourself more of a slow traveler that likes to get off the beaten path then I recommend you base yourself here for 2-3 days. There is plenty to see and do here to fill these days at a relaxed pace and there are dining options that rival any big city.

This itinerary isn't for you if you move quickly through a place and need a lot of action. If you want to see Punta Tombo, Puerto Madryn, and the Peninsula then this may not be for you.

Puerto Piramides is a small fishing village turned tourist destination. For me, it is paradise. For others, it is boring. You know your travel style best!

What this itinerary includes: This itinerary will cover all of the wildlife viewpoints and must see sites on the peninsula in two days and my dining recommendations.

🚗 How to get around this itinerary? You do need to rent a car for this itinerary to be able to enjoy yourself. It takes around an hour from Puerto Madryn to reach the peninsula and then, of course, you need to drive long distances across the peninsula to reach each site. Check rental rates here.

You can also hire a private driver if you're in a pinch. A friend did this when she visited on a federal holiday and there were no rental cars available. But this is an expensive option considering you'll need to be driven to and from the peninsula and then hire your driver for the entire day each day you explore.

Option to extend: Are you a proper slow traveler? A road tripper? You can continue exploring coastal Patagonia. Drive south to spend time in Puerto Madryn, Cabo Raso, and Bahia Bustamente. Or drive north to Las Grutas to see what a Patagonia beach resort looks like (spoiler alert, it's rustic).
