You’ll find Ljubljana castle perched above the old town; you can take a quick funicular ride or a short but steep walk up from the river. Plan 1–2 hours to explore the courtyard, a few small exhibitions and the watchtower for the best city views at sunset; the grounds are free but the tower and some exhibits require a ticket, and there’s a café and gift shop on site. Wear comfortable shoes, check opening hours and ticket options online or at the tourist office before you go, and aim for early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds. Shooting from the tower you are positioned high above the city. You can go for wide views of the city or details of the rooftops and Ljubljana’s notable buildings. The lively city below and frequent clouds in the sky are good subject for timelapse photography.
