Message from Charlie and Jess

Dunwich forest is a peaceful woodland covering around 9 square kilometres. Since 2006 the area has been the focus of a rewilding project by Forestry England who have gradually replaced conifers with broad-leafed trees, converted areas in the south of the woodland to lowland heath (one of the rarest British Habitats) and introduced Dartmoor ponies to the northern area.

There are many walking and horse riding routes passing through the woodland whilst also incorporating coastal, village and heathland landscapes along the way. Alternatively there is a circular 4 mile walk in the North Forest. For this, park at the Newdelight Walks Car Park or the Hog's Grove Car Park and follow the markers.

Having spent weeks here as a kid myself, I can highly recommend it to families with young children who will no doubt have hours of fun exploring, den building and playing hide and seek amongst the trees.

Check out the Komoot link below for some walking route suggestions
