After years of exploring and actually living in Reykjanes, I have found many hidden gems that really deserve more visitors and attention. This list is not meant as an actual itinerary, but rather a list of spots that you can then pick and choose from and add to your own schedule.
ETHICS: You might be wondering whether I should be disclosing these places or not. To me, public interest is paramount when it come sto natural preservation. If a place remains completely unknown, then it is far less likely to be protected in case it gets involved in any big industrial plans. It can also help smaller towns to have popular attractions nearby. With that being said, there are a few places that I feel will not benefit from more people going there where mass tourism might actually hurt them and I keep them for myself for now.
SUMMER VS WINTER: During summer, we have pretty much endless daylight here in Iceland. That means you have the maximum amount of time to explore and enjoy. The opposite is true for winter when the days can be as short as 4-5 hours. That means you will have less daylight and driving can also be more difficult so I recommend stretching the itineraries a day or two and slowing down just a bit.
