Who this is for: Returning Iceland visitors, or ambitious first-timers willing to trade a little extra effort for landscapes that feel like you have the country to yourself. You like remote, you like raw, and you'd rather drive an extra two hours than share the view.
What you'll experience: Everything from the standard Ring Road plus the Westfjords, the place that ruins every other landscape for you. You''ll get to see hidden gems like Dynjandi waterfall which cascades down a 100-meter cliff in seven tiers AND the Látrabjarg cliffs aka Europe's westernmost point and a wall of nesting puffins.
Pace: The most demanding of my three itineraries. Some 5–6 hour drive days, gravel roads in places, and weather that demands flexibility. Westfjords roads are slower and that's what keeps the crowds out.
Bottom line: Most Iceland visitors never see the Westfjords, and that's exactly why you should. If you want Iceland the way it looked 50 years ago, this is the trip.
