This challenging hike includes rocky alpine terrain and should only be attempted by experienced trampers and in good weather. it is not recommended in winter due to avalanche danger.
The Gertrude Saddle Route in Fiordland National Park offers breathtaking views of the valley and Milford Sound. You can also wild camp on the saddle but be prepared to pack everything you need in & out with you. Make sure you're well-prepared, check the weather forecast, and have the right gear before tackling this trail.
This track is reached from the Gerturde Valley carpark, about 98 km along the Milford Road from Te Anau.
