This challenging yet rewarding alpine hike is an absolute bucketlist item for any adventurer.
With stunning panoramic views of glaciers and New Zealand's highest peaks, this 5.2 km advanced tramping track is not for the faint-hearted. From the Sealy Tarns Track to Mueller Hut, you will navigate rocky terrain, alpine scrub and sometimes snow. The route is dotted with alpine flowers and wildlife, including the mischievous kea parrots.
If you want to stay the night, you'll need to book the hut in advance. It costs $50NZD per person and can be booked through the Department of Conservation website.
Note: If attempting this in winter you will need mountaineering skills and equipment like ice axes and crampons.
