one of the tallest waterfalls in India, located inside Thangkharang Park near Sohra (Cherrapunji), this three-tiered waterfall plunges from a height of over 300 meters, cascading down a steep rock face with thunderous grace. Surrounded by dense forest, echoing with bird calls and misty silence, Kynrem feels wild and untouched, like a secret whispered by the hills.

How to Get There
Kynrem Falls is located about 12 km from Sohra town and roughly 65 km from Shillong. The drive is scenic, passing through green valleys and cliffs. The falls lie inside Thangkharang Park, so you’ll need to pay a small park entry fee at the gate.Once inside the park, a short walk or drive takes you to the main viewpoint, where you can see the entire fall plunging in three stages from the cliffs above.

What to Expect
Kynrem is all about scale. It’s a tall, layered waterfall with a commanding presence, especially during the monsoon season when the water is at its fullest.
Here’s what you’ll find:

  • A three-tiered fall that tumbles down over 300 meters

  • Surrounded by lush tropical forest and hanging cliffs

  • A viewing platform from which you can see the full drop

  • Fewer crowds compared to other Sohra spots

  • A chance to spot mistbows and swirling clouds depending on the time of day
During monsoon, the force of the water fills the entire gorge, and the roar is audible from afar. In drier months, it flows less intensely but still beautifully.

For the Curious
Kynrem Falls is located within Thangkharang Park, which also offers views of the Bangladesh plains, rare orchids, and limestone formations. Local legend speaks of the surrounding cliffs as sacred spaces, and the fall itself is often regarded as one of the most dramatic in Meghalaya.

It’s not swimmable due to the height and terrain, but it’s one of the best spots for landscape photography and quiet reflection.
